Robert L. Grun (Omega ’35) - August 15, 1972

Brother Grun has been with the Gulf Oil Corporation since 1936 in Pittsburgh, New York City, and at the time of his death in Houston where he was Product Manager, Petro-Chemical Division. He was a retired Lt. Commander in the Naval Reserve, a Trustee in the Congregational Church, and past commander of his Masonic Lodge in Pittsburgh.

WILLIAM H. RENTON, NATIONAL SECRETARY. Omega ‘46, of Cleveland, Ohio. Vice-President Metallurgical and Export Sales, Island Creek: Coal Company. Brother Renton served as Regional Counselor for Region 6-North from 1966 until his election to Grand Chapter in 1970, he served as National Historian, it past president of Theta Chi of Penn State (Omega’s Alumni Corporation) and is currently a member of its board. Recipient of the Alumni Award from Omega, Brother Renton is a Registered Professional Engineer, Civil Service Commissioner for Brooklyn, Ohio, and a Director of the Ohio League of Civil Service Commissions. The Rentons have six children.

Robert E. Eberly, Penn State ’39

When Robert E. Eberly (Omega) enrolled at Penn State in 1935 the Depression was still flourishing and he entertained no thoughts of becoming a banker, but studied chemistry instead. Now, 37 years later, he is in industrialist, a banker, and a philanthropist as well.

For five years after his graduation he was a chemist for the U. S. Navy, working in a laboratory at Munhall until World War ll ended. Then he returned to his home in Fayette County and began working in the oil and gas production business which his father had started in the late ‘30s. He has been there ever since and is now president of the Eberly Natural Gas Company and general manager of William Snee and Orville Eberly Oil and Gas Producers, Uniontown, Pa.

Since 1956 a portion of his time has been devoted to the banking business. He is a director of the Gallatin National Bank of Uniontown, has served as chairman of the examining committee, and in 1969 became vice-chairman of the board and president of the Gallatin National Bank Corporation.

Brother Eberly has been one of the leaders in the revitalization of the Greater Uniontown Area, serving as secretary of the Uniontown Planning and Zoning Commission, president of the Greater Uniontown Chamber of Commerce‘s industrial development committee, and president of the Greater Uniontown Industrial Fund. For his dedication to community betterment he was named “Man of the Year“ by the Chamber of Commerce in 1968 and two years later received the Rockwell Recognition Award.

He has maintained strong ties with Penn State, serving as treasurer of the Fayette Campus advisory board since the campus was established is 1965. His financial support and the tremendous community support he has enlisted have been two of the major factors in the growth of the Fayette Campus.

Brother Eberly is secretary and treasurer of the Eberly Foundation which has made capital gifts and annual grants in scholarship aid to needy, deserving students. Bob is a member of the board of the Penn State Foundation and received Penn State's “Distinguished Alumnus Award" last june.
