Harry Glenn Heil December 2, 1909 — May 2, 2007
Harry Glenn Heil, 97, of State College and formerly of Curwensville, passed away Wednesday May 2, 2007 in Anthony Hall of the Foxdale Village. State College. after a lengthy illness.
Born December 2, 1909 in Rosebud, Coalport, he was the son of William B. and Julia Emma (Myers) Heil. Mr. Heil was the retired as the Supervising Principal of Schools for the Curwensville Area School District for 20 years. Prior to that he had served as both a teacher and Principal of the Beccaria Township High School. He was a 1927 graduate of Beccaria Township High School and a 1930 Penn State University graduate with an Education Degree in History and Physics
Mr. Heil was a U S Army Veteran of World War II. He transferred to the Army Reserves where he served as Company Commander of both reserve units in DuBois and Clearfield. retiring with the rank of Colonel.
He was a member of the National Education Association, the Pennsylvania State Education Association, and the Curwensville Area Education Association, the Noble Lodge #480 F & A.M. of Curwensville having served as Master in 1965, a member of the former Odd Fellows Lodge in Curwensville. a member and past president of the Rotary Club of Curwensville. and a former member of the B.P.O.E. Lodge in Tyrone.
He was a charter member of the Rosebud Rod and Gun Hunting Camp in 1928. received the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Department of Instruction Distinguished Certificate for the Advancement of Education in 1964, was a member of the Honorary Society of the Scabbard and Blade. a member of Phi Delta Kappa, Theta Chi. and Pi Lambda Sigma – Pre Legal Fraternity.
On June 18, 1934 in Lewistown, Pa.. he wed the former Violanta I. “Lanty" Gardner who preceded him in death on February 3. 2002. He was also preceded in death by his parents, brothers Dick and William Heil and a sister Catherine Williams.
Surviving are 2 children Julia Ann and husband Ken Linn of Curwensville and James Robert and wife Mihee Heil of Rockport. Texas. Also surviving are 4 grandchildren. 8 great grandchildren. a sister Elmira and husband Dr. Robert Hammond of Charlottesville, Va., and a sister-in-law Mrs. Pauline Heil, of Silver Spring. Md., as well as several nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life Service for Mr. Harry Heil will be held at the Foxdale Village 500 E. Marylyn Ave. State College. Pa. on Wednesday May 9. 2007 at 1:30 PM.
Friends will be received at the Chester C. Chidboy Funeral Home. Inc. 300 State St. Curwensville on Tuesday May 8 from 12:00 Noon until 2:00 p.m. Interment will be in the Utahville Cemetery. Coalport Road. Military Honors will be accorded at the funeral home by members of the Clearfield American Legion and Clearfield VFW joint honor guard.
