Daily Collegian - IFC elects officers for 1993-94 term
Last night the Interfraternity Council elected its three new officers for the 1993-94 term with the hopes of improving communications among IFC members in the coming year.
"Let's get those ideas and get something accomplished," said newly elected IFC President Bill Donato, adding that during the next year he hopes to make the council more efficient.
Donato is a member of Delta Sigma Phi fraternity, 508 Locust Lane.
Tom Dymek of Theta Chi fraternity, 523 S. Allen St., was elected new administrative vice president.
"We're not communicating," said Dymek, addressing chapter presidents. "We're not using our strength."
He challenged the presidents to change the situation.
"I'm working towards moving IFC away from being a separate entity (from fraternities,)" he added.
Newly elected IFC Treasurer Mike Herzog of Phi Delta Theta fraternity, 240 N. Burrowes Rd., said more active participation in IFC is needed.
"We need to work on the academic dilemma of new members," he said.
Herzog plans to implement study sessions on time management and workshops for fraternity house treasurers to provide a forum to solve problems.
He also said he would like to start using computers to aid in IFC bookkeeping.
"We need to know where the funds are at all times," Herzog said.
The current IFC officers said they were pleased with all of the candidates.
"I'm confident in Bill (Donato)'s abilities," said IFC President Joe Jorczak, adding that the council will flourish under its new leadership.
"The presidents had a tough decision," said Jason McMurtrie, IFC secretary.
The new officers will officially be installed on March 15.
Also at last night's meeting, members granted Alpha Phi Delta fraternity, 325 S. Garner St., full membership in IFC after a required yearlong probationary period.
"Now we can take an active part in IFC," said Steve Gumm, a member of the fraternity, which was founded at the University in 1929 but ceased to exist in 1985 when the chapter had financial problems.
