Chapter Updates - Omega Chapter - Pennsylvania State University
Greetings from the Omega Chapter. The 1981-82 school year has been a re-building one with the chapter initiating many brothers and improving the up-keep of the house.
Fall term saw us pledging four men and tailgating at every home Penn State football game. Homecoming was a large success with the most alumni in recent history returning for the festivities. We placed second in the lawn display com-petition with the theme "Penn State—a Tailgating Tradition." Our IM football team went 6-0 only to lose to FIJI in the playoffs. The pledge project con-sisted of painting the window shutters on the house. Eventually all four pledges were initiated.
Winter term saw us pledge and ini-tiate a class of ten men, the largest class in many years. This class' project con-sisted in tearing down the plaster on the second and third floor hallway walls in preparation for installation of barn sid-ing. The brothers installed the wood and new hanging ceiling which have consid-erably improved the looks of the house.
Several purchases were made this win-ter improving the operations of the house. First, a new stove was bought re-placing the twenty-five year old antique we had. A new light and felt cover were purchased for the pool table, the latter in appropriate military red. New stereo speakers were bought improving the sound at our parties. Athletics were not as good as Fall's (our basketball team was 3-3), but a brother went to the semi-finals in wrestling.
Spring term has just started and we have four pledges and two acceptees for fall. The biggest event so far was our winning of the man-miles award at the Assembly held at Beta Theta Chapter at Drexel.
Founder's Day was held with a brunch and morning meeting, while the after-noon saw the actives and alumni run-ning teams in the Phi Psi 500 philan-thropic race. We are participating in Greek Week with Alpha Gamma Delta sorority and hope to give a good show-ing. The softball and soccer teams are doing well and hope to make the play-offs. The pledges are painting the fire-tower for their project.
This year provided us with 18 new brothers, new hallways, a new stove and a general improvement of brotherly spirit in the house. We advise all alumni to look in the summer mail for Home-coming announcements, for we plan to make it the best ever. Hope to see you in New Orleans!
Fraternally,
