Walk for Carly - Carly’s Crusaders Walk-A-Thon Wrap-Up
On May 1st, 2010, 8 undergraduate brothers, 2 alumnus brothers, and two girlfriends traveled to Boiling Springs High School, home of the 1st annual Carly’s Crusaders Walk-a-thon to benefit DIPG awareness and the Mitchell family.
About 20 minutes after everyone arrived, the brave volunteers hopped in line to get their heads shaved (See video below). 6 of the brothers chose to shave their heads in honor of Carly Mitchell, Theta Chi’s THON child, and a total of 80 others took part in the demonstration as well. After the head shaving, the crew started their part in the walk-a-thon, walking for about 3 hours as a group.
The weather was perfect for the event and the guest speakers ranged from Carly’s oncologist to a spoken poetry group. It was truly amazing to see a community join together in honor of one of its own and everyone who attended was touched by the amount of support for this young lady. A total of $48,000 was raised for both the Mitchell family and other local families dealing with childhood cancer. All the support and money adds up and one day we WILL find a cure.
