Trophy Will Be Shared
The Reginald E. Cooley Trophy, awarded posthumously by the Grand Chapter to Robert Lee Weaver, ex-'48, a the outstanding undergraduate of 1947, has been suitably engraved and will be shared by Omega Chapter at Penn State, by which he was initiated and by Gamma Zeta at Oklahoma A&M, which he was largely instrumental in establishing.
Region III's Assembly
Region III held its annual conference know as the Assembly April 24 at Penn State College, with Omega Chapter s the host chapter. Delegates started to arrive Friday and were housed by Omega Chapter in one of the college dormitories.
Three separate schools were held at 11 o'clock Saturday forenoon A school for presidents, vice presidents, secretaries, and alumnus advisers was in charge of Regional Counselor Francis H. S. Ede and Deputy Counselor A. Leon Heek Jr.; the school for treasurers and financial supervisors was in charge of National or Ralph H. Griesmer and Deputy Counselor Gilbert B. Chase; the school for marshals was in charge of Executive Secretary George W. Chapman and Deputy Counselor Philip C. Campbell. The school for all members got under way at 2 o'clock. The following subject were discussed:
Good Manners, A. Leon Hock, Jr.; Budget Membership, Ralph H. Griesmer; Chapter Houses and Their Care. Gilbert E. Chase; Scholarship.Philip C. Campbell; From the Executive Office, George W. Chapman.
The traditional banquet, held in the Nittany-Lion Inn, was enjoyed by 151 actives and pledges and 31 alumni and guests. Counselor Ede was toastmaster. Robert Bossler, president of Omega Chapter, extended greetings, after which Norman C. Horner, president or’ the National Board of Trustees, introduced the guests at the speakers table.
The roll call of chapters was in charge of National Counselor Griesmer. Mr. Kenworthy extended the greetings of Penn State College. George W. Chapman presented the highest honor of Region lll in the form of an award to Norman C. Horner, with the following citation:
"For nearly thirty year he has given of his time and effort to his fraternity. As treasurer of the Omega
Alumni Corporation and as chapter financial supervisor he has served more than twenty years. Since 1940 he has been a member of the National Board of Trustees of Theta Chi Fraternity and is now president of that body. His deep interest and his able service to his fraternity through the years have been outstanding.”
The prize for the man miles was awarded to Beta Eta Chapter of Washington College.
Gamma Eta at Bucknell, one of the youngest chapters, showed older chapters hose to take prizes. They had over fifty percent of their membership present and also took the prize for the best singing and college cheers.
The Assembly was very much pleased to hear that Alywyn Williams, Pennsylvania, '24. had successfully revived Kappa Chapter. which reported twelve pledges and six transfers from other chapters. One of the pledges it a son of Aylwyn and attended the Assembly with his father. Eleven of Kappa's pledges were initiated May 22.
Following the banquet, a dance was held in the hotel dining room, with excellent music furnished by Beta Eta's orchestra from Washington College. Through the cooperation of Dean of Women Pearl Weston of State College. there were approximately one hundred of State College co-eds present for the dance.
The committee in charge of the Assembly was: Francis H. S. Ede, chairman; Edward B. Webb, vice chairman; Gilbert B. Grate. A. Loon Heck Jr., Philip C. Campbell, and Walter S. Anderson, deputy counselors, and from Omega chapter, Ray Ritz, Robert Bossler, James Swab, Jack Seymour. Harry Lang. Robert Robinson, Michael Horen, and William Staley.
