OMEGA IS CONVERT TO "HELL WEEK" BAN
The regular stated initiation was held by Omega Chapter during the first week end of March. Theta Chi welcomes R. Brooke Keely '37, Edward H. Elliott, George C. Harkess. Richard H. Knowles, Jack G. Maise, and Bernard Woodward into its brotherhood.
Preceding initiation there was held a probationary period during which time the merits of our new brothers were tested in a much more logical manner than the customary "horseplay" of the so-called "Hell Week." We are endeavoring to set an example for others as well as to follow the suggestions of the Grand Chapter in this manner.
Following the third degree, our new brothers were honored with a banquet. Jack Maise, speaking for the initiates, gave us a suggestion well worth remembering—"that although pledge training is over, then real life and work as fraternity men is just beginning."
At the close of the first semester this year, Omega Chapter has definitely taken a step forward in scholarship. Although we would like to see higher averages, we are satisfied with the present results. The senior class had the best aver-age as a class, but all honors go to our newly initiated brother, Bernard Woodward, who received a 2.78 average, which is only slightly below the highest possible average a student at Penn State can obtain.
We should not fail to mention the other brothers who received averages over a 2.0. They are Samuel N. Baxter, Jr. '35, Robert T. Corley '36, Alvin L. Heutchy '37. and Daniel D. Mearns '36.
Joseph S. Alexander 1935
Joseph S. Alexander, Omega '35, is a member of Penn State's undefeated cross country team and of the track team.
Alexander is on the varsity four mile relay team; he is one of the school's best mile and two mile runners. Because of his athletic distinction and campus popularity. he has become a member of Skull and Bones, exclusive senior honorary organization.
Omega Chapter will be represented in the I. C. A. A. A. A. championship track and field games by Brother Alexander, who is expected to run in either the 3000 meter event or the mile relay team with a possibility of running both events. This is Brother Alexander's final year of inter-collegiate competition.
We're back again with some more Omegaletics for you. The first news of importance concern: the bowling team which won its first match against Theta Kappa Phi 6-2. The intramural tournament is a round robin arrangement. There are five teams enter-ed with the tournament ending about the first of April.
The entries for the intramural volleyball tournament have been completed. Omega now has a full athletic program with bowling, basketball, and finally volleyball taking place on the same evenings due to the limited facilities which the college offers.
