Plan to Continue High School Activities - Geuder Makes Lion’s Paw - Anderson Stars at Soccer

At this time we would like to call to the attention of the Theta Chi world sixteen future members of our fraternity. Charles Hammond, basketball star from St. Mary’s High School, has been training in lacrosse ever since his arrival at Penn State. Roy Maize, brother of Earl Maize, Omega, ’26, represents Uniontown, and expects to obtain a berth on the wrestling team. Charles Schwenk from Schwenkville has already added to the list of Omega aristocrats along with Brother Decker from Deckertown and Brother Miller from Millersburgh. Pledge Schwenk was captain of his high school football and basketball teams and also played three years of baseball and become a crack shot on the rifle team. William Hazzard, Chester, was manager of his high school paper. He has already signed up on the editorial staff of the Collegian. Samuel Sinclair’s diversified activities at Kennett Square High School consisted of soccer dramatics, and manager of baseball. He is now practicing soccer and working on the business staff of the Collegian. Kenneth Page was editor of the Erie High School yearbook and had parts in several school plays. He intends to continue his dramatic work and train for track. Benjamin Conard at Germantown High School was secretary of his class, associate editor of the yearbook, and a member of the dramatic society. He expects to concentrate all his efforts toward Penn State dramatic society knows as the “Players”. Carl Williams from York has a clear voice that assures him a place in the Glee Club. Edgar White, a former student under Edward W. C. Oermann, Omega, ’22, at Conshohocken High School, is working on the editorial staff of the Collegian and expects to try out for the Players. He was editor of his high school paper, president of the debating society, and prominent in dramatics. Jack Carson was sports editor of the St. David’s High School yearbook, on the football squad, and an outstanding figure in dramatics. He is now a member of the Freshman Y.M.C.A. Cabinet, a candidate for the Penn State Players, and expects to get into cheerleading next year. Harold Jordan, a former member of the Wilkesbarre High School Dramatic Society, is expecting to find his picture on the baseball page of The Rattle in 1930. Editor of the South Ardmore High School paper, member of the Honor Society, valedictorian, all this and more is Walter Keene, who has set his ambition toward the boxing squad, and some day we may find him heaping to edit the Collegian and rolling up scores for the rifle team. Joseph Bell came to State with the expectation of becoming a good half-miler. This lad from Bridgeville was on the football squad and president of his senior class. A xylophonist of ability is Sherwood Booth, an orchestra and National Honor Society man from Stroudesburg. Floyd Foster has two points of distinction. He is the only sophomore pledge and the only violinist in the house. He serves in the orchestra pit of the Cathaum Theatre.

November proved quite the social month for Omega. Our annual house party was held November 9 and 10. We were fortunate in having guests Brother Fontain from Alpha Beta, a brother from Pi, Clyde Maize, Omega, ’26,  Frederick Greiner, Omega, ’28, and Thomas Jackson, Omega, ’31. Next came our pledge dance on November 23, The Blue and White Orchestra of which Gilbert Gruber, Omega, ’29, is a member furnished the music. Three football hurricanes have been staged this year by members of Omega. The first game of the season was a barbarous contest between the send and third floors, ending in a 6-6 tie, and not many hurt. Next Omega rustics played the Alpha Chi Sigma team. The results of this burly struggle was a 12-0 score in Omega’s favor. Several weeks after this last encounter an invitation from the pledge team, who chose to call themselves “the eleven little rattlers of Theta Chi” was received, requesting eleven mighty upperclassmen to enter against them in combat. The R.S.V.P. was not neglected, and the elven little rattlers were thrown for a 20-0 loss. Richard Geuder, ’29, our chapter president, is now a member of Lion;s Paw, the most powerful society on the Penn State Campus. Brother Geuder has been elected to Parmi Nous and has been appointed chairman of the Senior Ball Committee. Charles Anderson, ’31, has played full time in every varsity soccer game of the season, and has consistently been on of the outstanding stars. He made his numeral last year and has now qualified for his A.S.F. Devere Decker, ’31, has trained during the past fall with the lacrosse squad, Not being satisfied with the numeral that he earned last year, he is preparing for the varsity position in the spring,
